Uzbekistan State World Languages University (USWLU), in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, adopted the Companion Flag on October 16, 2003. Spearheading the campaign were Professors Gulandom Bakieva, Vice-Rector on International Affairs, and Abbas Iriskulov.

USWLU was established in 1992, one year after Uzbekistan independence, as the result of the merger of two Soviet-era institutes: Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages, and the State Pedagogical Institute of Russian Language and Literature. Today, more than 6,000 students are enrolled at the university, two-thirds of whom study English.
