Fairwood marks MLK Day with CF Adoption

On January 16, 2004, Fairwood Elementary School celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by becoming the third elementary school in the Kent School District (Washington State, USA) to adopt the Companion Flag. Leading the way were school counselors Jennifer Clintworth and Cari Land, and intern Julie Faulkner.

"The Companion Flag and Human Dignity" was the title of an address given by Companion Flag founder Scott Wyatt, building on the theme of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. Mr. Wyatt stressed to the students the need to follow Dr. King's example: to not only know what human dignity is, but to recognize it in oneself and in all other people.

The event was highlighted by presentations by Fairwood students and ASB officers, a PowerPoint presentation on the life and vision of Dr. King, and a special appearance by students from nearby Carriage Crest Elementary School. The Carriage Crest ambassadors shared the many positive impacts they've seen since their school adopted the Companion Flag.
