Reflections and poetry by Dr. Mala Mehra, President
of Hoerner College, Lucknow, India, 21 May 2004:
"The idea of the Companion Flag is great and as such I feel very
strongly about the concept of a united and universal citizenship --
at least in our hearts -- because unless we cross those boundaries
in our hearts we are relegated to the jungle raj, and are only aiming
towards the survival of the fittest.
"Being humane and sensitizing ourselves to the
guy next to us never seems to be an aim, but I am truly happy that
someone out there cares. Hoerner College definitely endorses the Companion
Flag and I am sure we will make the kids understand it for good.
"divide and rule
an adage older than time
the Vietnams and Iraqs
the Jews and Moslems
spewing venom
an earth divided
in the confusions of confucius
false sense of security
in fanatic under the guise of patriotic banter
whereforth the heart that cares
for a bleeding child
a hungry mother
an injured soldier
an old lady awaiting the return of her children
under the banyan tree
the kid in rags?
boundaries boundries boundaries
when will the human being arise
to touch to feel to believe
in the freedom of the soul
to be
a companion....
to hold high on the horizon yonder
a song in his heart
riding high on the Companion Flag
towards a united universe
come hold my hand
I am here right beside you
lets leave behind
love laughter and fun
for all under the sun."
